Early December Planting For Hardy Garden Bulbs And Farm Insights
Hardy garden bulbs such as narcis sus hyacinths and Dutch Iris may be planted in early December for blooms next spring. Tests at Auburn show fall planting yields higher quality flowering than winter planting. Bulb beds need well drained, medium fertility soil. Beef breeding herds should be wintered in separate groups per a Black Belt Substation study. Cows calving in fall and winter and nursing through winter require more feed than dry wintered cows. Weanling heifers kept for replacements also need more feed. Large partridge peas and bicolor lespedeza provide an ever normal granary for wildlife with spring seed supplies equal to about three fourths of fall. Sweet potatoes in storage should be checked. any decay should be graded and sold.
