Frank Dunham a state highway patrolman was seriously wounded in a Cottonwood area roadhouse altercation while aiding Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control officers. John Whitehead and Walter Mathis were jailed with charges of assault with intent to murder and resisting an officer.

The Supreme Court, in a three judge Philadelphia circuit opinion, allows the Department of Justice to continue anti trust proceedings to dissolve the Aluminum Company of America. The Pittsburgh district suit remains distinct from the 1912 consent decree covering the company and affiliates. The action followed a price increase by the Aluminum Company.
A University of Alabama graduate opposes sending the band to the Rose Bowl arguing the trip would cost 20 000 to 30 000 and that housing for students should take priority. Other alumni favor sending the Million Dollar Band to the game.
Directors of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co announce an additional 50 cent dividend on common stock. This is the fifth dividend of 50 cents paid this year. The payout is due December 24 to holders of record December 10.
AP reports Japanese forces pressed toward Nanking with banners near the capital as fighting looms. Spokesmen say the city walls are within three miles, Takahashi gate captured, and smoke rises from fires. Troops also move toward Wuhu on the Yangtze while Spanish front actions are noted.
Shanghai dispatch reports a van guard of Japanese troops advancing toward Nanking, the Chinese evacuee capital, with a Rising Sun banner within three miles of the city. The Japanese army spokesman said fighting could erupt tomorrow and noted advances toward Wuhu on the Yangtze and along the Grand Canal from Tanyang, 45 miles east of Nanking.
Tuscaloosa, Alabama December 6 1936 Bill Peters Alabama Crimson Tide assistant football coach and 1936 team member staged a ten minute bare handed fight with a wounded 160 pound buck in Sumter County near York. Eight dogs aided him as one bit his arm while antlers ripped his hood. Peters killed the deer despite injuries and carried the animal a mile and a half to his car.
Morgan county's board of revenue authorized a $20,000 bond purchase today at the courthouse, marking the third reduction in sixty days of the road bond issue that began at $696,000. The panel also approved a $75,000 bond for new tax collector H. R. Summer as appointed by Governor Graves. The refinancing of the $260,000 issue is due in 1938 while other debt runs for several years.
Approval of a bond for Morgan County revenue officials was completed within two hours. Mr Summer filed the bond Saturday with J R Daniel, agent for National Surety. The application was mailed to Atlanta, then approved after telephonic discussions with New York and Atlanta offices.
Deer hunters from near and far gathered in the national forest in Lawrence County for the annual hunt. This year 1 000 applications were allowed with 500 hunters in the field Monday and Tuesday and the remaining 500 Wednesday and Thursday. Forest staff and state wardens supervised the event as sportsmen from Decatur traveled to Moulton on Sunday to draw stands for a buck chance.

Judge Paul Speake, 66, longtime judge of the 24th Judicial Circuit, died at his Huntsville home. He presided this term and was to return to court. Funeral at 3 p.m. Tuesday at his home with Rev. Neill G. Stevens. burial Maple Hill cemetery. Pallbearers include Huntsville bar association members.

Reports say Arthur Fried 82, a Bronx sand and stone firm official, was kidnapped and held for $100,000. His brothers contacted a presumed gang while federal agents investigated in White Plains. Fried attended a movie with family before disappearing and police traced intercepted calls.

Alabama was fair with a hard freeze in the north and central areas and frost, temps 16 rising slowly.
