Auburn to press fight over desegregation despite court ruling
Auburn University officials say they will continue the legal battle to delay court ordered desegregation even as a federal appeals panel refuses to stay the order. Harold J. Franklin, a Montgomery history major, is expected to enroll for winter quarter, potentially making him Auburn’s first Black student and making Auburn the fourth Alabama higher education institution to admit a Black student. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected Auburn attorneys' request to delay enforcement while an appeal proceeds. Franklin, 30, is a graduate of Alabama State College in Montgomery.
