Baker inquiry hears Aguirre answers with Fifth Amendment
Paul Aguirre, a self described Puerto Rican mortgage banker, refused to say if he loaned Bobby Baker $60,000 or met him in New Orleans. He invoked the Fifth Amendment and testified about Baker’s financial records while dodging questions on Baker’s outside business activities. Other witnesses including Milton Hauft and Mat thew McCloskey testified as the committee probes Baker’s finances and possible political payoffs. Senator Williams interrupted the hearings and walked out after clashing with McLendon, signaling the partisan tension in the probe.
