Probate Court under Judge T. C. Almon restored Somerville as a duly incorporated municipality in Morgan County. The town, first incorporated in 1819 and longtime county seat until 1891, becomes the seventh incorporated city or town in Morgan County, with Flint previously last to be incorporated. A Nov 30 hearing led to the ruling after a petition signatory majority of local taxpayers.

A crowd of about 20 000 gathered downtown for a 45 minute parade ending a three day Gala Christmas Opening by the Retail Merchants Division. Bands from Decatur High Morgan County Hartselle and Lakeside joined ten floats while Santa drew many children despite showers. Businessman hailed the event as overall better than last year with many calling for the promotion to continue annually.
