City Council approves ten percent raises for street workers
The council backed a 10 percent raise for about 100 workers in classifications including assistant street superintendent, equipment operators, foremen, and laborers with a $1.50 an hour floor. The measure, part of a conditional plan, moves to the Personnel Board for study and return to the council for final approval. Parking meters may be abolished or reconfigured with a $39,000 annual loss to the city, while signs will guide parking times. The budget includes major Point Mallard project funding and a wave activated pool, marina, golf course, and related facilities for TVA and BOR support, with initial site prep planned this month.
