Athens considers sewer plant options and lagoon facility
Athens weighs a new 3 million dollar wastewater plant versus an 800 thousand dollar lagoon system to tackle a dangerous bacterial count. City officials note existing plant inadequacies and plan a 40 thousand dollar main extension while state health authorities urge a cheaper lagoon solution supported by recent lagoon tests showing no odor issues. Federal funds could back either option.
