GOP Planning Drive In Dixie
Winston Salem reports the Republican Party plans a strong campaign in the South to recruit so called Jeffersonian Democrats. Albert B. Hermann, executive director, urges organization and cross party cooperation to build a two party system below the Mason-Dixon line. He cites recent gains in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Florida as proof the South can swing Republican. Aims include expanded party schools in 23 states and filling 1 220 county seats with many vacancies in county and women vice chair positions. The drive targets Democrats discontent with the New Deal and Democratic leadership.
