During the 11 week congressional recess senators and representatives plan overseas missions. Spending may top 1964's 396,876.65 with House and Senate members funding much of their travels. Many pay own way including hotel and entertainment costs.
President Johnson plans an early meeting with key advisers to map a federal campaign against further price hikes. The quartet includes Secretary Henry H. Fowler Budget Director Charles L. Schultz Federal Reserve Board Chairman William McChesney Martin and Council of Economic Advisers Chairman Gardner Ackley. The session may be labeled routine and could affect money markets. Labor data show October living costs rose two tenths of a percent to a historic peak, nudging noninflationary limits.
Decatur Diary reports a blue and white 24 inch girls Western Flyer bicycle stolen from Bob Tweedy at 619 Jackson St SE. Also a Hamilton watch worth 71.50 goes missing from Z H Beadle’s watch shop after a man visited. Police found a bicycle by the railroad embankment and no charges filed. Austin High School has officially been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. City School Supt. H. R. Leeman and Principal Quitman Henderson announced the approval at the association's annual meeting in Richmond, Virginia. The school now joins Decatur Junior High and Lakeside High as regional members.
NEW YORK AP reports stocks higher with heavy trading. bonds easy and cotton quiet. In Chicago, wheat and corn advance on general demand. soybeans higher on speculative buying up to 50 cents. Live steer futures steady to 25 cents higher, top at 27.35.
Cold snap chills the Southeast with Decatur recording a 17 degree low, the coldest since 1955. WHOS lists a 16 degree reading in November that remains the harsher mark. Forecasters warn of a hard freeze with highs in the mid forties and a warming trend on Thursday. A 46 year old World War II amputee froze to death near a Talladega railroad crossing.
Gemini 7 crew Frank Borman and James Lovell undergo final checks for a Titan 2 liftoff on Saturday. Gemini 6 crew Walter Schirra and Thomas Stafford also face last exams ahead of their December 13 liftoff. Both missions aim for close rendezvous in a historic two spacecraft flight. Weather outlook at Cape Kennedy forecasts satisfactory conditions for Saturday.

A jury of white men began deliberations in the murder trial of Hubert Damon Strange, a white service station attendant charged with the slaying of Willie Brewster, a 38 year old Negro foundry worker, near Anniston. The case followed a courthouse rally where State Rights Party leaders urged violence to preserve white supremacy.
A three judge U.S. District Court issued a broad injunction prohibiting the Ku Klux Klan from interfering with the civil rights of Negro citizens in Bogalusa Louisiana, authorizing acts of terror and intimidation to be halted. Also reports note 75 Negroes marching at Greene County High School Alabama demanding desegregation with no incidents. President Johnson to confer on surplus foods for India and Pakistan. FBI cites Brinks burglary in Syracuse with $423,421 seized and a fugitive list update. Britain vows to protect Kariba power flow to Rhodesia and Zambia in ongoing regional tensions.

The Morgan County Board of Revenue & Control unanimously approved forming one centrally operated Morgan County Highway Department. Each commissioner retains powers, and road funding will be shared equally among four districts. Chairman Guy D. Roberts says the unit system aims to build and maintain roads at lower costs and improve quality for citizens.
Area voters showed little enthusiasm on a Tuesday for 37 constitutional amendments with a predominantly yes tilt. Early returns from Morgan County indicated no amendments would be defeated as half the 74 boxes reported, suggesting broad approval of all 37 amendments.

Athens Limestone Chamber officials hailed Tuesday’s passage of Amendment 23 creating the Elk River Authority. They predict waterfront sites will draw new industries to Limestone and Lauderdale counties and boost state development along the Elk tributary. Plans call for governor appointments to a six member board after local vacancy lists.
Muscle Shoals Alabama AP reports Quinton Green 46 of Tuscum bia was killed in a head on collision one mile east of the city on Alabama 20. Five others were injured as Green and several coworkers returning from Amoco Chemical Co in Decatur were involved in the crash.
