In Knoxville circuit court, Brown and Hagin liquor dealers of Chattanooga sue Sheriff McCulloch for possession of over a thousand half pints of whiskey and $1000 damages for detention. Jury selected, case adjourned to continue tomorrow amid spectators. The State vs Hart Stringer ended with a not guilty verdict as a toy pistol was shown.
Paris reports a furious German bombardment along the Aisne while West ers and north of Arras see active artillery. Belgium on November 30 marked cannonade with no infantry attack, the front near Arras remains active and the Argonne fighting unchanged.
A Gadsden dispatch says North Alabama farmers are leaving much cotton unpicked due to low prices, with Morgan county reports denying this. farmers in Etowah are picking and ginning but many hold cotton for higher prices as season ends, predicting low-grade sale at about six cents per pound.
Friends report Dr. A. Rickles is resting in a Comparative settee after sustaining broken bones and severe bruises from a ladder fall yesterday. He remains under medical care and is said to be improving gradually.

Montgomery December 4 The closing session of the Royal Arch Masons featured election and installation of officers for the ensuing year and presentation of important committee reports. Norgan Gunn of Jasper was elected grand high priest William Ransone of Birmingham deputy grand high priest John McCormack of Mobile grand king Ty Frees of Selma grand scribe John Wilson of Montgomery treasurer.
Nesbitt Scruggs bound over to the grand jury after a morning in Justice Newsom's court following the Bodrey death. About a dozen witnesses testified as a thronged courtroom watched. Chandler had earlier bound over to investigations of a robbery case and identified Mortie Dortie as not being involved with Bodrey's killing.
Montgomery December 1 postpones each Oakley and Lacey embezzlement case until 3 30 this afternoon. Indications suggest one remaining Lacey case will be first called by the state.

It already appears in official estimates and will be reviewed by house and senate appropriations committees. Critics call the amount excessive while the plan awaits shaping in the appropriations sub committee. The current year census bill totals about 500 thousand for manufacturing data.
Buenos Aires reports London and Paris want ships in port as allies fear a major battle near the Plata river mouth. German fleet under Von Spee is said to be between two hostile fleets, with a French steamer sighting four large ships believed Japanese chasing the Germans.
