Boll Weevil Can Be Stopped Here in Alabama
Auburn entomologist Dr Roy Ledbetter told hundreds of farmers at Belle Mina and the Tennessee Valley Agricultural Experiment Station that the boll weevil can be eliminated in three years using the diapause method. A 10 000 acre control area will apply this fall to cut the weevil 90 percent and reduce cotton costs by at least 15 per bale. The plan has been studied since 1960 and shows virtual wipeout in Texas and Mississippi test areas. Farmers will pay for insecticides.
