Polio patterns warn peak may fall between mid August and September
Dr. Van Riper notes previous polio patterns show the peak could occur between mid August and mid September, with the epidemic’s midpoint not before the second week of September. Late peaks reduce new cases faster, while early peaks slow decline. This year’s polio totals rise weekly since spring, with 38 states reporting higher totals than 1948, and the National Foundation highlighting intensified, widespread need and improved medical facilities compared with history.
