County School Board Retains Dress Code
The Morgan County Board of Education narrowly voted to keep the existing dress code despite opposition. Duggie Johnson and Jean Whitley urged parental control over dress and grooming, while others argued for board oversight. The 1972-73 code bans shorts for girls outside physical education and requires neat jeans with school insignia, with penalties starting at a principal’s warning and escalating to suspensions. The meeting also covered carpet bids, a half-acre land bid, a new salary schedule funded by the state, and low insurance bids for county vehicles.
