The Willoughby Presbyterian Church traces origins to open air services and a 1911 building with first pastor Rev. A H Manley. Sunday School began in 1901, and the church grew from a mission in Decatur under Dr J W Willoughby. Eleven pastors served, current pastor Rev Frank Richards, and several members hold board and leadership roles though records were partly destroyed.

Ernesty M Kamputs, a blind watch repairman, survived a gun attack in Hungary on February 28 1947 that killed his wife and wounded his infant daughter. He fled to Austria then the American Zone in Germany, lived in a railroad car, and now repairs hospital equipment and clocks as a hobby, trusting that God opened new doors after tragedy.
