Miss Maud McCutchen aged 57 died Wednesday at nine at the home of her brother Chum McCutchen in Valdermosa. She is survived by three brothers Chum George and Jack McCutchen of Lacey's Spring and a sister Mrs Lamar Wilson of Ennis Texas and Mrs Minnie Stitcher of Union Grove. Funeral services were to be held at two o'clock at Valdermosa by Rev Simon Garrison with interment there Peck directing.
A country Black man attempted mailing a letter from a fire alarm box in Alexandria Louisiana. He told firefighters Uncle Sam does give good service in the post office department. Police explained the mix up and released him.
Superintendent W. W. Pason announces the city council deeded one and a fifth acres to the city schools. The tract adjoins the Negro high school and was cut from nearby property by the TVA Dry Creek drainage project. The new space adds facilities for recreation and expanded use by Negro students.

Memphis confronts a chancery court case from Memphis Power and Light to halt construction of a municipal distribution plant. The city, under a 20 year TVA power contract at yardstick rates, plans to proceed after failed negotiations to buy the company’s properties. W. J. O'Brien says the municipal system would be illegal competition and cites potential large savings if the city bought TVA power instead. The suit seeks protection of the company’s property and security.
The Seattle Central Labor Council defends Dave Beck president of the Teamsters' Council amid a newsroom strike at the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
