Bodies of victims ordered exhumed by grand jurors
In Tuscaloosa Alabama on August 16 the grand jury for the lynching directed the coroner to exhume the bullet riddled bodies of two black men and send the bullets to a ballistics expert to identify those responsible. After hearing witnesses the jury inspected the scene and planned to report later. Elmore Clark, wounded, was taken to Kilby Prison for safekeeping as guards were withdrawn.

Hartselle man named as Hartford police slayer
Cecil Sheehan of Hartselle and Jack Curtis of Montgomery were identified by a negro witness as slayers of Hartford police officer Oscar L. Jerkins. Curtis and Jim Sharp were jailed in Hartselle. Sheehan was later arrested. The witness Joe Eldridge picked the suspects from a 15 man lineup after a night attack in Hartford. The slaying was tied to a bank robbery plot that failed when Jerkins resisted.

Four Die in Quadruple Poisoning Car Crash in Arkansas
