Motors Cannot Replace Horses In U S Army Officials Say
Officials in Washington say complete motorization of the U S Army is impractical and virtually impossible due to road quality and terrain. European armies move divisions by motor trucks but the United States lacks sufficient parallel highways for large overland moves. Infantry would ride by rail or march, cavalry could travel under own power, and tests will compare animal and motor transport in maneuvers near Marfa Texas with the First Cavalry Division in September.
