U S troops stop three hundred chanting Koreans storming the Wolmi Island causeway near Inchon. Demonstrators oppose Communist inspectors and barbed wire barricades hold them back. Injury toll rises but no serious harm reported as Rhee denounces violence and warns against acts of violence.

The Commerce Department awards $127,500 in federal airport aid to three Alabama communities including $22,500 for Pryor Airport in Limestone County. Industry helps publicize the Bloodmobile visit at Central Baptist Church from 1 to 7 pm. Industries such as Parts Worthington Goodyear Mills Alabama Flour Mills Decatur Iron and Steel Wolverine and others will notify employees but not solicit pledges. Laboratory technicians from Decatur General Hospital and the TB Sanitarium join the effort as the goal to reach 100 units is pursued.
Secretary of State Dulles pledged U S protection for United Nations truce supervisors in Korea amid clashes with South Korean demonstrators. He urged patience and noted the team includes Communist Czech and Polish members while rejecting claims they endanger South Korea. He also rejected calls for immediate removal.
CHICAGO W Governor Marvin Griffin said Georgia's Senator Walter George, 77, would face Herman Talmadge in the Democratic primary for the Senate next year. Griffin noted George's age could be an issue and that Talmadge would likely mount a strong challenge.

Sir George Thomson and Sir John Cockroft told reporters at the 72 nation atoms for peace conference that harnessing hydrogen bomb energy for peaceful purposes could come in a generation and that Britain is pursuing research. Homi Bhabha predicted control of fusion within two decades, while Canada’s experts forecast atomic power competing with coal and hydro by 1970 and possibly under construction before 1965.
The Air Force states it telegrammed Mrs. Una Schmidt in June 1954 to say her airman husband Daniel C. Schmidt was a prisoner in Red China. She later learned of his POW status in November 1954 after marrying Alford Fine, while Schmidt, 22, was among 11 airmen released by the Communists. The family remains in California as Schmidt’s POW status is clarified. An Air Force spokesman noted a Western Union delivery receipt but could not identify the signer.
More than 600 members of the Joe Wheeler Electric Membership Corp gathered at Legion Field on U S 31 south of Decatur for the annual meeting. Officials said registrations and mail votes exceeded quotas as four trustees were named to stand for election during the business session.
Claude Rumsley a 40 year old Sylacauga lumber dealer drowned at Martin Lake while cooling off after engine trouble on a boat trip with resort operator Cooper Crosley and his wife witness. He was pulled under and presumed to have suffered a cramp or heart attack. The search continued at depths of 20 to 40 feet.
Secretary of Defense Wilson says he is distressed by Harold E. Talbott's resignation as Air Force secretary and expects to recommend a successor this week. Talbott resigned effective Saturday to avoid embarrassment over his outside business interests. Wilson told reporters he felt aged by the controversy and will make a presidential appointment.
A Birmingham scene reports a 2 year old, Adams Hornsby Jr., crushed when a car driven by Ernest Fowler rolled over him. Fowler claimed he bumped the car and looked back to see the mother nearby as the child died from head and chest injuries. An officer said the child may have crawled under the vehicle while playing.
Hurricane Connie menaces the Carolina coast as residents brace for a possible strike near the Hazel landfall area. Forecasters warned of 135 mph winds and northern movement, prompting evacuations from Atlantic Beach to Wrightsville Beach and precautions across the Eastern Seaboard.
A 55 year old passenger, Mrs. John Poole, suffered a broken left shoulder, left arm, and five ribs when a car swerved to avoid a child and overturned on U S Highway 72 about nine miles east of Athens. She was taken to Athens Limestone Hospital then transferred to a Chattanooga hospital.
Alabama expands free Salk polio vaccine to about 800000 youngsters under 20 and pregnant women starting in October. The program, funded by 1.13 million dollars from a 30 million appropriation, runs October through February and covers serum free of charge though physicians may bill for administering the shot.
Insurance companies renewed efforts to win an exemption from a proposed new school tax on personal and corporate incomes. Spokesmen for underwriters told the Senate Finance Committee that taxing them again would be unfair double taxation.
