Col Roosevelt and Gov Johnson outlined a nationwide push with the National Progressive Executive Committee. Johnson to campaign mainly in the East while Roosevelt covers the West and South in forty of the 48 states.
The National Progressive party adjourned its first national convention after nominating Col. Roosevelt for president and Gov. Hiram Johnson of California for vice president. Both were chosen by acclamation in Chicago with Johnson and Roosevelt sharing praise and pledges as the convention ended.
H Hammerbush a leading Decatur farmer and nurseryman surveys land near the twin cities for a potential large nursery tract. He praises the area but notes he has not decided yet and may bring his son to join as a farmer if he relocates.
United Press reports Gov. Wilson travels to New York to have his picture taken for campaign use. He will spend two days meeting with political advisers.
Bessie Sue Pool, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Pool of Trinity, died this morning at the home of Mr and Mrs Boldin on Sixth Avenue West. The body was sent to Trinity for interment.
Sheriff Spinney of Autauga County and a chained prisoner were removed from a Mobile and Ohio train in Montgomery. He defied a conductor ordering him to move the prisoner to the rear negro compartment and vows to sue the railroad, arguing he may not be forced to ride in a segregated car with a prisoner.
By United Press. Leaders of both parties agreed today that congress would adjourn for the final time on August 17. The decision follows Senate approval of free passage of American ships through the Panama Canal late last night.

In a 1912 letter from New Decatur Aug 8 the writer attacks incumbent mayor John Patterson for lacking executive ability and outlines street paving drainage and police concerns. He urges a capable reform candidate and warns the city faces financial danger if governance remains “happy-go-lucky.”
At a Birmingham meeting of Gov. O Neals subcommittee on judiciary reform the panel chaired by former Senator John A Lusk advanced plans to increase yearly court weeks from about 21 to 30 36 in order to ease overburdened dockets. The commission urged aligning trial rules with federal practice on murder reversals and scheduling tied cases before less busy judges.

Cullman Alabama August 8 The handsome home of H V Pollock was destroyed by fire Tuesday with little furniture saved. Mrs Pollock saved the art collection and many oriental rugs including the most valuable piece valued over a thousand dollars by a rug dealer Steiner. The interior housed a lifetime of curios and art. only a few were saved. Fire started from a firing spark, water scarce, and hopes vanished early. Pollock had just returned from Carlsbad Germany arriving Wednesday with J B Brown of Cullman.

The Morgan County Board of Registrars arrived in Decatur to register those who failed to sign up. They will stay two days at the courthouse as registration remains unusually light across the county.
Adam Croney and Miss Myrtle Reager of Athens were married this afternoon at the court house by Probate Clerk Frank J. Davis in a small ceremony as local witnesses attended.
The Morgan County grand jury adjourned after returning 114 true bills with 62 issued today and 52 last month. It praised county officials and urged strict law enforcement, especially Prohibition, noted several murders, and found county offices and finances in order with $36,595.01 on hand. The jail was clean with improvements suggested, Poor House needed exterior work, ditching and water piping recommended, seven inmates housed.
Chicago August 8 1911 beef price records set as eighteen head of cattle from Kansas and Illinois sold at 10.25 dollars per hundred pounds. Buyers attribute the surge to cattle scarcity caused by drought in the southwest and Western Canada and the severe winter of 1911.
Topeka reports indicate Gov. Stubbs leads over incumbent Senator Curtis for the U S Senate nomination as Western counties return counts slowly. Definitive figures unavailable. Stubbs' edge appears to widen as results trickle in.
Major M C Burch has completed an improved two-horse cotton chopper and sent one to a Macon Georgia manufacturer to be mass produced and marketed by next spring. Observers say Burch's chopper is the best yet invented.
