Signs of Breathing Spell End? Downturn in 1949
Washington dispatch reports signs of a temporary breathing spell in the 1949 business downturn. An official economist group foresees midyear stability for July through September, with possible September gains, but a longer decline through mid-1950 as readjustment lags. The outlook hinges on shifting business attitude, renewed orders, and tempo of production. A Federal Reserve report notes a halt to a 27 week loan drop, with a small uptick in the week to July 27, signaling cautious optimism.
