Highway Department Plans Bee Line Widening If Right of Way Secured
The state highway department aims to widen the Bee Line from 18 to 22 feet by securing additional right of way. Present right of way ranges 50 to 80 feet, with 110 to 120 feet extra needed. Limestone County officials have promised needed width between Athens and Decatur. The road bed would grow from 26 to 38 feet, with standard slopes and ditch widths guiding the expansion. No Morgan County right of way has been obtained. Widening in Decatur city limits is not planned.
