Gray Says Destruction Of Files Was Intended
Former acting FBI Director L Patrick Gray III testified he was not directly ordered to destroy sensitive files from Ehrlichman and Dean but believed destruction was intended. He said he moved the papers to his Connecticut home in late 1972 and burned them during Christmas week after briefly reading some. He described cables suggesting Kennedy involvement in Diem's assassination and noted the cables may have been forged by Hunt. Gray released his opening statement ahead of Senate Watergate testimony and disputed earlier CIA deputy Walters.
