Decatur Firm Low Courthouse Bidder

Gresham, Williams and Johnson bid 5.5 million Tuesday to build the Morgan County Courthouse and jail, a 10 percent increase over officials' hoped cost. County commissioners with the low bidder and architect said they hope trims can reduce costs and a contract can be signed to start construction. The five story courthouse on 2nd Ave SE could be built in 760 days. Universal Construction Co. bid 5.71 million and Rush Engineers 6.42 million. Bids included three alternates for a fourth courtroom and cheaper jail metal. Architect Walter Hall and engineer J O Colvard noted bids exceeded their 5 million target.
