The Roosevelt administration frets over Cuba and sugar as talks in Washington threaten a large quota. If Cuba gains, stability may follow. if not, unrest grows. A bristling debate inside the White House centers on buying Cuban sugar or risking intervention.
Miss Erin Rowe home demonstration agent with county leaders organized a four district schedule of canning demonstrations at 44 centers. Each center designates three leaders who will teach preservation techniques under Rowe’s supervision. The list shows dates and chairs for sites across Districts One Three and Four including Decatur Trinity Hartselle Gum Springs Centre Point Falkville and Danielville with times from August 2 to August 9 and several 9:00 start slots.
Washington reports Hugh Johnson ordered nationwide storekeepers into action. Food stores work four hours weekly, others four. Minimums set at 18 dollars in small southern cities, 12 elsewhere. Newsmen editors and related staff declared professional and exempt from limits.
County farm agent H Gibbons reports 3800 letters mailed to Morgan farmers informing them that 17000 acres were pledged under the cotton acreage reduction plan. If the full 24300 acre quota had been met, about 200000 dollars would be paid to Morgan farmers. with the shortfall about 140000 dollars remains to be distributed. Loans would be interest bearing and sized by liquidated value estimates, with assignments remaining as security until final liquidation. The plan aims to boost consumer purchasing power and accelerate recovery.
Dry cleaners from across the Tennessee Valley gathered here Tuesday to discuss participation in the new code. A luncheon was held at the Lyons Hotel at noon and complete agreements on the code are anticipated.
The Alabama Relief Administration under Thad Holt announces a new wage scale for relief workers effective August 1.
