Woman in New York Sets Self Afire Over Love Dispute
Louisa De Hostos a 38 year old Porto Rican educated woman, described as disappointed in love, set herself on fire in her New York apartment. She died in hospital after leaving a incoherent letter aimed at the police chief blaming a man who took a woman's name and caused her distress. NINE WORKMEN DIE IN ACCIDENT AT THOROLD LOCK
In Ontario today a crane boom slipped while lifting a 500 ton steel gate at the Welland canal Thorold lock causing the gate to crash into the lock end. The accident killed at least nine workers and injured about thirty others with around forty men nearby. The collapse crushed steel work as the gate fell to the lock bottom.

One Man Dies in Oil Tank Blast at Refinery
An oil refinery explosion killed Louis Hensley, a foreman in the refinery construction department, and severely burned two volunteer firefighters. Twenty seven others were hospitalized in Vincennes Indiana with six in critical condition as a small fire sparked the blast and oil sprayed over the workers. The fire origin remained undetermined.
