Montgomery March 26 The Southern Bell Telephone Co asked Circuit Judge Walter B. Jones to approve a temporary intrastate rate increase of about 2.5 million dollars per year. The judge delayed action while the case proceeds and a bond equal to twice the proposed increase would be required. Southern Bell argued daily losses of 3,600 dollars under current rates while the state contends that amount is not a loss but additional revenue not received. If granted the temporary increase would last until the appeal is resolved.
