Eastern Star and Service Guild meet in Decatur

Mary Lou Dancy Chapter 320 of the Order of the Eastern Star holds its regular session Tuesday at 7:30 PM in the Decatur Masonic Temple. Circle Two of the Wesleyan Service Guild of Central Methodist Church meets at 7 in the church parlor with Mrs. M G Smith as hostess. Decatur residents spent a cold night on a Tennessee River island after their cruiser foundered in high waves and wind. The group, including two children aged 11 and 10, huddled around a small fire eight to nine miles west of Decatur as their motor failed and the craft drifted ashore.

Storm Hits Morgan Wheeler Co-op Area Widespread Damage

Trees Show Wrath Of Sunday Twister

Uncounted hundreds of trees of various sizes were uprooted and hurled about by a Sunday twister. The damage blocked roads and aided rescue efforts while the Black Warrior National Forest timber stands suffered heavy losses in the affected area.

Special Drive For Storm Fund

A special appeal for funds began today with a $200 contribution to the Red Cross in Morgan County. The county faces a $5,000 shortfall in its annual Red Cross campaign. Three Men Die as Tornado Strikes While Turkey Hunting

Three men, Thomas Brown 29, Charlie Brown 38, and Orbie Oliver 41, were turkey hunting near Piney Grove when a Sunday tornado approached. They fled to a car but were killed as they raced for cover. They had watched Mr and Mrs Will Smith, both around 60, flee the storm and described the scene as like striking a match to gas. The story continues on page 7.
