Alabama Senate Fails To Pass Liquor Bill Again
In Montgomery on April 17 the Alabama senate again failed to secure the required two thirds for a state liquor store bill. The measure, pending a state wide referendum on June 9, saw a final tally of 20 to 13 with several senators voting differently from yesterday. An amendment making the plan operative only if ratified by a statewide vote was adopted. The session adjourned for the day with plans to reconvene later to consider the measure again.

Sparkman Death Victim Dies at Home at 63
Sidney J. Sparkman of Hartselle route two died of a heart attack at his home Thursday noon aged 63. He is survived by his wife, four sons, five daughters, 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild, two brothers, four sisters, and a stepmother. Funeral services set for Saturday at Forest Chapel at 11 conducted by Rev. Robert Raines and Rev. J. H. Chitwood. Burial in the chapel cemetery.

Kennamer's Plea Fails in Oklahoma Appeal
The state criminal court of appeals denied Phil Kennamer's petition for rehearing after his manslaughter conviction in the death of John Gorrell Jr. Kennamer, son of Federal Judge Franklin Kennamer, faced an attempt to stop a defense motion for a new trial in Pawnee County. Gorrell was shot in Tulsa on Thanksgiving night 1934 amid an extortion plot against Homer F. Wilcox's family.
