Partly cloudy this afternoon tonight and Thursday with scattered showers in North portion Thursday and southerly coastal winds. The weather service reports a 24 hour high of 82 and low of 67 with 12 rainfall. Decatur cotton noon quotes middling inch at 37 and strict low inch at 36. Local items include visits, ambulance transfers, church notices, and a meeting on the city softball program tonight at 7 30 at the VFW home. Notable movements include Alabama and Wheeler Lake Yacht Club figures in Chattanooga planning summer boat activities. A baby born at Decatur General hospital and several patients listed. A former Decatur resident held by the FBI in Paris Texas admitted to investigators that he robbed the Gulf filling station at Lee Street and Second Avenue. Guneyy Tunstill was traced from Dewar to Birmingham and then to Fiorina to Cedar and finally Bonham where federal agents arrested him. A February robbery yielded about 65 dollars and a suitcase at the bus station helped identify the suspect. A warrant for robbery was sent to an Arkansas sheriff but Tunstill’s capture ended legal plans for unlawful flight charges for now.
Stassen held a strong lead in Wisconsin primaries as late counts narrowed the field for 40 delegates. MacArthur faced a weak showing with Dewey blocked and Dewey’s delegate prospects limited.
Charles H. Parker, president of the Decatur Junior Chamber of Commerce, will seek the vice presidency of the state Jaycees at the Mobile convention April 30 and May 1. Ned Frazier announced the nomination at the Jaycees meeting as directors adopted the resolution to nominate Parker. The Decatur club plans a special Jaycee Journal edition for the national convention.
President Jessie Oldacre and Queen Joyce Leeth of the Cull festival group will visit here, with plans for a community reception and scheduled events during their stop in the city.

Four more candidates for delegate to the Democratic national convention say they will not promise to walk out if civil rights planks are written. They join four more delegates who say they would not bolt the convention. Senator Lister Hill opposes Truman and civil rights efforts while pledging to consider other convention issues.
An April 1 report from Berlin states Russian investigators blame Britain for the Soviet British plane crash that killed 15. British officials dispute the Russian account, saying the crash occurred over a Russian airport region and citing four power zones and flight path details but offering no final conclusion.

John L Lewis asked a federal court to void the order ending the coal strike and Monday was set for a hearing. Judge T Alan Goldsborough delayed action on contempt and a preliminary injunction as the government weighs contempt charges and next steps in pending anti strike actions.
Decatur parking meter case submitted to the supreme court with a transcript filed April 5. The decision will affect several Alabama towns planning coin machines. Norman Harris represents the defendants while Peach, Caddell and Shanks defend the city of Decatur.
Marshall county voters defeated a proposal to raise gasoline taxes by one cent per gallon. Early counts from 29 of 46 precincts showed 1,466 against the tax and 403 in favor. The tax would have funded highways if approved under a January constitutional amendment.
The Senate confirmed Paul G. Hoffman to direct the European Recovery Program. The action followed the $5.3 billion plan's enactment to aid Western Europe. The vote was unanimous by voice, suspending rules. Truman had named Hoffman yesterday and the Foreign Relations Committee approved 13 to 0.
In Sturgeon Bay Wisconsin on April 7 Dist Atty Edward Minor states a first degree murder charge will be filed against tenant William Drews 50 for killing his landlady Mrs Richard P Cody 85 and burning her body in a furnace after taking $110 from her purse. Drews reportedly told police he married Julia Smith 36 and that he killed Cody Friday morning then placed her body head first in the furnace.
In Limestone circuit court Judge James H. Crow presided as jurors found James Holley Kelsoe guilty of second degree murder in the death of Joseph Edgar Dugger of Athens. The jury returned its verdict shortly before noon after receiving the case Wednesday afternoon. Kelsoe claimed self defense.
Mrs Christine Haynie 35 to 40 was found dead late Tuesday night with a scarf tied at her neck in a pine thicket near the Morgan Cullman county line. Coroner Rev Howell said a suspect is held in connection with the murder and the body was found by a relief party including her husband. Funeral arrangements to be announced by Peck's funeral home.
