Mississippi Near Change on Reapportionment

Mississippi lawmakers moved toward reapportionment with a House vote 113 to 14 approving a study resolution. Senate action is needed before a special committee can be named, as officials fear federal court suits if no action is taken this session. Both chambers were in recess and to reconvene Monday. Dam Opening Is Moved Up

TVA announced the Wheeler Dam navigation lock in North Alabama will reopen on April 23, moved up from May 1 after earlier targets of June 1. The lock failed last June 2 when a landward wall slipped on clay seam, halting some barge traffic on the Tennessee River while others were rerouted.
