Budget-Cutting Gears Reversed
The House began its Easter recess while the budget cutting drive reversed course with five bills already acted on and six more pending. The result shows a net increase of 35 million dollars over Eisenhower administration requests and departmental needs. The Senate may alter House totals, usually increasing them, unlike last year when the House trimmed about 400 million.

Pension Program rests in hands of fifteen men
In Montgomery on April 2 Gov. Folsom's old age compromise faces the 15 member Senate Finance and Tax Committee. The panel will decide if five tax bills return to the Senate for final passage next Friday after a weekend of hearings. The committee, 9-6 against a showdown, meets Monday at 11 a.m. with votes possible Tuesday and a floor vote set for the next legislative day. Weekend toll reaches six in Alabama crash
Alabama's weekend traffic deaths rose to six when a car struck a tree killing Charles L. Williamson, 32, and L. J. Figues, 55, both from Fulton. The wreck happened on old Alabama Highway 5 north of Clarke County town.

Two Critically Hurt In Decatur Traffic
Two local residents were severely injured in separate accidents within two hours. Rodger Dale Murphy aged 5 and Malcolm E. Sims aged 43 were listed in critical condition at Decatur General Hospital after being struck by vehicles on Friday evening. Rodger Dale was hit while riding a bicycle near 1100 block of 4th Ave SE by a 1953 Chevrolet driven by Malcolm D Laughmiller of Falkville. Sims was struck while crossing near 6th Ave and Highway 31 by Plymouth driven by James W Ferguson of 411 10th Ave SE. Both incidents are under police investigation.

Hartselle Lad Survives Freak Lightning Blow
Six year old Andy Vest of Hartselle was struck on a back porch as lightning hit the East Main Street home of Mrs Ruby Vest. The bolt burned his right arm and foot, burned a hole in the floor, and blew out wall plugs and wiring while a bed caught fire. He recovered at home after treatment at Hartselle Hospital.
