Local notes show many residents visiting Atlanta and Gainesville while a Georgia headline proclaims Dry law yet mentions continuing alcohol flow nearby. Community events include church service at Old Holly Creek and the Looper reunion with around 100 attendees.
Maurice Anderson was named a winner in the 1936 87 Swift Essay Contest open to all F F A members in the United States. Twelve boys prepared essays and were judged by three professors from the University of Minnesota. He received a $5 check from G F Swift president of Swift and Co Chicago.
Dawson County began paving with Cobb Construction Co pouring concrete on Route 63 toward The work connects Dawsonville to No 9 asphalt route and will run twelve miles to the Chestatee River at the Dawson Hall county line. Traffic to Gainesville must detour via Dahlonega or Silver City.
A light vote in Dawson county on the 8th saw five amendments carry while liquor was rejected locally. High Shoals had no election due to 12 registered voters. Precinct results include Sanfords 29 for repeal 22 against Barretts 7 for 18 against Shoal Creek 8 for 18 against Gilmer Cut-Off 11 for 1 against Purdys 3 for 19 against Dawsonville 60 for 57 against Kiloughs 3 for 18 against Amicalola 6 for 9 against Savannah 12 for 3 against Yellow Creek 20 for 4 against Blacks 19 for 17 against.
At Liberty J E Taylor and family visited relatives in Canton and Ballground over the weekend. George Townsend stayed overnight with Ruel Martin in Alpharetta. Mr and Mrs Craig of Gordon County visited J G Tatui in Liberty Sunday. A social hosted by Miss Corene Hamby drew a large crowd. Lamar Owen from Buford U C Camp visited home folks. Forsyth County residents John Townsend visited L S Townsend Friday night. Misses Jewel and Selly Conner of Hall County spent Sunday with Christine Warren. Rev and Mrs Jim Lawson of Price and Rev Cantrell of Chestatee visited L A Townsend Sunday. Miss Jewell Whitmire entered Gainesville Business College.
Mr James J Delay county agent for Dawson and Miss Mildred Michael of Winder were married on Sunday June 6 at Roopville Ga Rev E H Blackburn officiating The couple left for a wedding trip to Chattanooga Lookout Mountain and the Carolinas and are now at home to friends at the home of Mr and Mrs W L Martin in Dawsonville

The Chain Store Tax Act requires operators of all stores to apply for a license and pay the license fee by June 30. The tax starts at $2 for the first store, $10 for the second, $15 for the third, and $5 more per store up to the twentieth reaching $100. all stores beyond the fortieth are taxed at $200 each.
The State Highway Dept invites sealed concrete paving bids for 8 508 miles of the Gainesville Dawsonville highway from West Washington Street to the Sidney Lanier bridge over the Chattahoochee River. Bids open June 18 in Atlanta. One remaining gap in Hall county will be paved later this year.
