Aylesbury Teacher McLeod Dies by Suicide in Craik Jail

T McLeod an Aylesbury teacher, arrested in Regina on serious charges, died by suicide in Craik jail between 12 and 5 30 am Monday while awaiting a preliminary hearing. He had requested a nightgown, used a nightgown to aid self harm, and was found with multiple self inflicted injuries in four blood pools.

Bragg Convalesces as Front Letters Reach Home

In a May 10 1917 letter from Bearwood Wokingham Heb the writer recalls harsh March conditions near Vienna and the Canadian front. He describes hauling material to a ridge the severe cold rain and snow and a car accident during preparation for a drive. He left the front when hospitalised with nephritis caused by exposure.

Ratepayers OK Two By Laws for Town and School

Voters supported two by laws on May 25 with 32 to 17 for the town measure authorizing purchase of a Tangye engine and $1800 for a concrete wall and related upgrades. The Da Nicheon School District No 88 by law passed 46 of 51, allowing trustees to borrow 8000 as part payment for a new four room brick school costing 14200 to be readied for the fall term.

Little lad breaks leg in barnyard accident

Alfred Ger Vase Kettlewell aged three and a half fell and broke his right leg near the socket while playing in the barn yard with his brother on Sunday morning. Parents rushed him to General Hospital where he received care and is doing as well as could be expected.

Grain Growers Sunday Service Held at Devideon

Grain Growers Sunday was observed at Devideon on May 27 with a wheel special union service in the Methodist church at seven. The church was crowded, with extra seating in the front. H. Joyce, pastor of Knox Church, led the service and devotional exercises, hymns printed in pew form, and copies distributed. Rev. T. Bray delivered the address addressing rain growers.

Life for His Country Private Karelle Killed in Action

Private Andrew Karelle sacrificed for Canada on April 1017 after serving about a year since his enlistment in 1916. He died on the front while in action. He was related to Mr and Mrs Robert Towie and Mrs Howard Davidson among others in Garvin Sask and Madebritch. The report notes his prior recovery from a medical issue in Winnipeg enabling return to duty.
