T McLeod an Aylesbury teacher, arrested in Regina on serious charges, died by suicide in Craik jail between 12 and 5 30 am Monday while awaiting a preliminary hearing. He had requested a nightgown, used a nightgown to aid self harm, and was found with multiple self inflicted injuries in four blood pools.
In a May 10 1917 letter from Bearwood Wokingham Heb the writer recalls harsh March conditions near Vienna and the Canadian front. He describes hauling material to a ridge the severe cold rain and snow and a car accident during preparation for a drive. He left the front when hospitalised with nephritis caused by exposure.
On orders of W H Chatwin livery stable keeper Davidson a sale by public auction will occur at the Davidson Palate Livery Barn on June 19 1917 at 1 pm. A two year old steer left by Duncan Campbell to Walter Melhuish of Saskatoon is to be sold for expenses of care and sale. W H Robinson auctioneer.
Notice that Fire Policies Nos 1x701 to 153725 inclusive of the National Fire Insurance Company Hartford have been lost and are valueless without a licensed agent countersignature. Company warns no valid claims or payments can be made against them and asks recipients to take notice.
In the Judicial District of Regina notice is given regarding the estate of Homer Stout late of Girvia Saskatchewan farmer. Creditors and others are advised to file claims and appear as required by the administrator.
Harold Cummins son of Mr and Mrs A G Cummins residing half a mile west of town enlisted in the Royal Navy Canadian Volunteer Services Corps a few days ago. He will go to Victoria to train awaiting call for duty. The notice confirms his enlistment and expected departure dates.
Voters supported two by laws on May 25 with 32 to 17 for the town measure authorizing purchase of a Tangye engine and $1800 for a concrete wall and related upgrades. The Da Nicheon School District No 88 by law passed 46 of 51, allowing trustees to borrow 8000 as part payment for a new four room brick school costing 14200 to be readied for the fall term.
Alfred Ger Vase Kettlewell aged three and a half fell and broke his right leg near the socket while playing in the barn yard with his brother on Sunday morning. Parents rushed him to General Hospital where he received care and is doing as well as could be expected.
In affectionate remembrance of Private Andrew Haeside killed in action April 9 1917. The verse laments the loss, recalls his welcome, and asks for solace as the family and friends mourn. A friend.
Grain Growers Sunday was observed at Devideon on May 27 with a wheel special union service in the Methodist church at seven. The church was crowded, with extra seating in the front. H. Joyce, pastor of Knox Church, led the service and devotional exercises, hymns printed in pew form, and copies distributed. Rev. T. Bray delivered the address addressing rain growers.
Private Andrew Karelle sacrificed for Canada on April 1017 after serving about a year since his enlistment in 1916. He died on the front while in action. He was related to Mr and Mrs Robert Towie and Mrs Howard Davidson among others in Garvin Sask and Madebritch. The report notes his prior recovery from a medical issue in Winnipeg enabling return to duty.
Dr Wilson of Saskatchewan University spoke last Friday in Davidson replacing Rév We Clarke of Saskatoon. He outlined three war themes and described a new Patriotic Fund campaign to organize rural districts and educate residents about their duties. He compared contributions by civil servants to Growers, urged broader canvassing, and praised the Saskatchewan patriotic tax alongside voluntary drives.
A farmer from near Devideon suffered serious injuries when a wagon team of mules bolted while he worked in the field. The frightened animals ran away, pinning him and causing hazardous injuries.
Embery Scott MacKinnes and Rutherford claim to have angernee ts the Citizens of Davideon and surround ing district by taking anthem with the choir. Feral decoraties were bautiful and en shrouded the palpit with the Union Jack in the background. The report ends abruptly before completion.
