Final saw Geofrey Bennycastle defeat Douglas Middleton 6-4 6-4 to claim top prize while runners up received gifts from local donors. Picnic in the Park Sponsored by Alexandra Rebekah Lodge

Robson Diamond Jubilee Marks Ontario Manitoba Pioneers

Mr and Mrs T C Robson celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary. The couple recalls emigration from England to Canada in 1873, settling in Manitoba, with nine sons and one daughter. The writer notes frontier life, ministry support, and friendships with Sir Wilfred Laurier, Sir Oliver Mowat, and Sir Geo W. Ross. The couple, born 1842 and 1845, observed their 60th anniversary on August 30th.

Persistent cultivation proves sow thistle yield reduction

Councillor W. E. Robson demonstrates that a 35 acre block of Kota wheat land remains free of sow thistle and rust after rigorous cultivation. Plowed, fallowed, and cultivated six times before sowing, the field produced about 25 bushels with a clean stand, satisfying the owner.

Dauphin Public Schools Open for Term With Noted Staff

Dauphin Public Schools opened this week with a full attendance and a large number of students migrating from the closed Catholic school on 2nd Avenue. Mackenzie and Collegiate campuses listed numerous instructors led by Principal Whitmore at Mackenzie and J M Jonasson at Collegiate. A Sunday farewell at the Baptist church honored Rev. E G Church departing for missionary work in India, followed by a Monday social with speeches and gifts to Church and family.

Canadian Red Cross Officials Visit Dauphin Next Tuesday

Dr J W Robertson national chairman of the Canadian Red Cross Society will visit Dauphin next Tuesday. He travels with Manitoba branch president J A McCray and other officers. The party will tour the district, attend a welcome address, and speak on postwar peace time activities conducted through nursing stations and the Junior Red Cross.

Death of James Comrie at Ninette and Riverside Cemetery burial

James Comrie of Dauphin died at Ninette sanatorium on the 2nd inst aged 32 after two months there. He came from Deen Male eight years ago and lived in Penrith until his death. He worked for Cameron Heap Limited and was valued by peers. He leaves a widow and three children. Funeral plans not yet set. body to Dauphin for Riverside Cemetery interment. The Gay Theatre will reopen under new management on September 4.

The Dauphin Horticultural Society held its annual garden show in the town hall last weekend. The event featured striking displays by Mr and Mrs Hugh Lys and notable out of town contributions from Neepawa and Rudd. Prizewinners are listed on a single page.

Local residents return to Winnipeg teaching posts

The Misses Grace Lola and Winni fred Caldwell returned to Winnipeg to resume teaching duties. Mr and Mrs Chris Argall of Tisdale visited the district. Argall formerly lived in Dauphin. An Anglican garden party will be held at Dr G J Walker’s grounds on Tuesday Sept 8 from 7 to 10 pm with home cooking for sale.
