Total Tax Rate 2 Mills Less Than in 1924

An adjourned town council meeting approved a 1925 tax plan raising 50 758.00 for all costs and 22 mills for the levy. The municipal levy lowers from last year yet covers district and health needs with small contingencies. Debentures will mature over six years, easing sinking fund pressure.

Conservative Meeting Elects Dauphin Association Officers

A large August gathering at the Great War Veterans' Association hall organized the Conservative Association of the Dauphin constituency for upcoming Dominion and Provincial elections. Dr J R Gunne chaired as officers were elected including President J R Gunne and Patrons Arthur Meighen and Major F G Taylor, with broad optimism for future campaigns.

Fined for Practising Without Qualifications

Richard Wilson appeared before Mr. G F Mason JF at Makinak on the 20th fined 56 dollars and costs for practising as a veterinary surgeon without the necessary qualifications.

Beach and Camp Life Echoes at Gilbert Plains

Local notices record many residents camping at cottages and returning from trips. Families such as Caldwell Watson Wasbinder Robson and Smith group travel or host guests while Miss Marguerite Smith and Miss Bethel Wallace host gatherings at cottages. The Country Club dance at Malcolm Pavilion attracts a large crowd as travelers proceed to Regina and Minneapolis.

Miss Brown Engaged to Lead Dauphin Collegiates French Dept

Miss Brown of Minnedosa has been hired by the Dauphin School Board to head the French Department in the Colegiate. Exam results show her as one of only two Grade X French winners in 1925. A Herald Tribune Weekly team from Chester, Kentucky visited Dauphin and praised the Hud son Bay railway project nearing completion. Alexandra Rebekah Lodge No 13 held a farewell for Sister Cassie Terry Bubb, presenting a china leaf sugar bowl and sugar tongs, with Sister Lewes assisting as pianist.

Full Year's Normal Course Opens Next Week in Dauphin

The Dauphin full term Normal course begins Tuesday September Sth and runs to June 11 1826 with Inspector E H Walker in charge. R M Stevenson will assume part of the inspectorate and oversee divisions. Dauphin town schools reopen after summer. Mackenzie Whitmore and Smith Jackson schools host classes for various grades and transfers. Non resident pupils may access grants under new Public Schools Act amendments, with limited local capacity.

Kupinitski brothers facing trial for wounding with intent

Arthur and Tom Kupinitski appeared before police magistrate T Logan at Elphinstone on the 19th and were committed for trial on charges of wounding with intent dated August 1. Gilbert Gudbranson, at Minnedosa before Judge Maulson on August 21, elected a speedy trial, was tried and convicted, and sentenced to two years hard labor less one day.

Liberty Grain reports the first car of new barley loaded by Wm. Cruise last Thursday and Friday. The grain threshed 35 bushels to the acre.

Two Belthampton Boys Questioned Over Stolen Boat

In June during high water two Belthampton youths stole a boat from Lake Mary, hid it in the bush, cut two feet from the stern and repainted it. Owner identified the boat leading to a Juvenile Court hearing before Police Magistrate Bancroft in Glenella. Each boy received an undefined term not to exceed three years in the reformatory. it was their second offense.

Obituary: Mrs Neil Wilkinson Dies After Brief Illness

Mrs Neil Wilkinson died Friday morning after an illness and was found in bed. She was born 1885 at Woodside Manitoba, married in 1911 to Neil Wilkinson CN R engineer, and left five children Jean Ross Marion Naida and William. Funeral at St James United Church with interment Riverside Cemetery.

Dauphin Horticultural Society Holds 5th Annual Garden Show

The Dauphin Horticultural Society will host its 5th Annual Garden Show this Friday and Saturday with a likely large entry. Dauphin gardens are exceptionally fine this summer and the display promises top quality. Damage to the town fire truck from a recent collision has been repaired at a cost of $212. Several warrants were issued this week for violators of the motor vehicle act.

Inquiry Into Wm Babyk Death Near Glencairn

In Sunville district near Glencairn an inquest into the death of Wm Babyk will be held at McCreary today. It is alleged he died from wounds received in a quarrel with a neighbor who is held by police. The wounds became infected and gangrene developed, causing death.

Laurier man fined for unlicensed radio operations

Dees Ache of Laurier appeared before Magistrate Z H Rheaume charged with operating a radio transmitting set without a license and a receiving set without a current year license. He was found guilty on both counts and fined 5 dollars for the transmitting and 5 dollars plus costs for the receiving. R C M P prosecuted.

Farewell Services For Rev and Mrs E J Church

The Rev and Mrs E J Church will hold farewell services at the Baptist church on Sunday as they leave Dauphin after three months to begin mission work in India. The community extends best wishes as they depart for their new home. Mr T S Fulton is in Winnipeg on business this week.

Edmonton man dies in Banff road accident

William H. Sutherland of Edmonton formerly Dauphin was killed when the car he drove overturned on the Banff road Friday morning during a Western States tour. His wife was uninjured. A veteran CN R locomotive engineer, he later led North Western Life Assurance western branches before moving to Edmonton to manage them.
