The Dauphin Fire Brigade handled three calls on May 2, none highly damaging. A chimney fire at Sam Mills on Sth Ave caused scorched walls. A woodpile blaze behind Goffman's Department Store was checked early. The worst was a large Ed Mitchell barn fire on Ave NE, nearly destroying the brooding house and burning about 175 chicks. cause suspected to be sparks from a bonfire or overheated brooder.

Transients Released From Jail Face New Theft Charges
After seven days in gaol for riding the rails from Gladstone to Dauphin two Indigenous men Jack Bettry and Wilfred Houle were back before Magistrate Little. Bettry was charged with stealing spectacles from a local hardware shop while Houle was charged with receiving the stolen goods. Both were convicted and ordered to leave town within twenty four hours.

Born July 1866 in Ontario he moved west at 16, married Catherine Calder in 1889 and helped settle Massey River district as first postmaster and general merchant. Survived by wife Catherine four sons Thomas Jr George Dave Duncan one daughter Mrs George James and brother Edward.

Crop Outlook Improves After Rain in Dauphin District
Rain totaling 45 inches in the Dauphin district plus light showers on Monday improve the outlook for crops this year. Dry spells affected exposed grains and subsoil moisture is down from last year. A June precipitation boost is needed to prevent drought damage. Seeding is nearly complete and wheat crops are well advanced with no grasshopper or cutworm signs yet.

Nelson Taylor Dauphin district pioneer dies in Lloydminster
Nelson Taylor a former turnkey at the Dauphin jail and longtime district pioneer died at Lloydminster after a heart attack suffered while en route from Kamloops to Dauphin. He was 79, married 57 years, and survived by his widow. He and Mrs. Taylor lived in Dauphin from 1897 to 1920 before moving to Alabama and returning to Canada in 1933 to live with their daughter in Kamloops.

Dauphin Guides and Brownies stayed busy with patrol led treasure hunt in the town park to mark the May 24 celebration. Canary Patrol led by Jean Strang found the hidden treasure as Captain Dorothy McMillan and Lieutenant Doris Cook guided Guide Company No. 1. Brownies joined the church parade at St. Pauls Anglican with Tawny Owl Betty Campbell and attended by Division Commissioner Mrs. C Padley. Six recruits are to join the Guide Company next Tuesday evening June 4.
