First secretary of the First Women’s Institute in Manitoba, Miss Taylor of Dauphin, gave the welcome address at the Dauphin district convention. Mrs. John L. Rose of Ochre River was reelected president as attendees heard reports on education paper making gardens and peace. The evening featured remarks by Mayor McDonald and Dr. Nicholson on cancer research, plus songs and a one act Mountain Valley play.

Fifth Annual Fed Calf Show and Sale Planned in Dauphin
Final preparations are complete for Northern Manitoba's Fifth Annual Fed Calf Show and Sale at the Dauphin Exhibition Grounds this Saturday. Buyers from Swift Canadian Co and Canadian Packers, Burns and Eaton's are expected. Fewer animals will be shown due to feed shortages, but quality remains high with strong market prices. Prizes totaling 300 dollars are offered by the Dauphin Agricultural Society and the Dominion Livestock Branch. Judging starts at 9 a.m. and the sale at 2 p.m. Judges are Cc. E. Bain and T.P. Devlin of Winnipeg. C. H. Smith of Gilbert Plains will wield the hammer.

Delegates Named for Liberal Progressive Convention
Fifty four delegates to the Liberal Progressive convention were elected by Liberal Progressive supporters from polls 55 to 63 in Dauphin town hall. Robert Hawkins M L A chaired the meeting with A T Warnock as secretary. Delegates chosen by polling divisions will be entitled to vote at the nominating convention.

Rainfall Totals Over Three Inches in Dauphin District
Over the weekend Dauphin recorded 3.24 inches of rain from Saturday morning to Monday night. The town prepared for potential dam damage, kept runways clear, and suspended riprapping work at the tourist camp as water rose four to six feet. Dr. J. R. Gunne, a respected physician and Dauphin Agricultural Society leader, died June 5 after a lengthy illness and prior service.

Retiring Railroad Men Honoured at Smoker in Dauphin
In Dauphin town hall 250 railwaymen and citizens honored 23 retiring members of the C N R Dauphin division with a smoker and banquet chaired by Tommy Walker. Brent Daly of Winnipeg gave toasts, with replies by Albert C. Hillman and others. a moment of silence marked rail veterans lost.

Rural Field Day Varsity Students Gather in Dauphin
Rural school children from about thirteen to fourteen area schools travel to Dauphin for the tenth annual Dauphin Rural Field Day Association event. They assemble at Smith Jackson School at 10 a.m. parade to the exhibition grounds, where a banner remains with Halley School. A patriotic program and Inspector Stevenson address precede an 11 30 drill competition. After a picnic lunch, the afternoon features boys and girls races shuttle relays jumping and team games including softball and possibly football.
