Protect The Trees In Dauphin Parks

A Dauphin Parks board appeal urges residents to safeguard 500 newly planted ash trees along town boulevards. Each tree cost $2.50, planted by mid May, with reports of saplings being knocked down or branches broken. The schedule runs Thursday Friday and Saturday evenings with final races Saturday. Admission policy and a new midway layout are announced along with 4H rally events and record grandstand spending to about $5000.

Drama Festival Winners Shine at Dauphin Event

Winners pictured from the Provincial Drama festival held May 16 to 18 at Dauphin town hall receive trophies and awards. Honors go to Terry Campbell for best junior play, Peter Ward for best junior actor, Richard Butler for best supporting player, Wilf Cuff for Banff scholarship, George Botchett for Free Press Shield, Gaye Yates for best junior actress, Robert Blair for best adult actor, Enid Giesbrecht for best adult actress, Raymond Dirk and Banky Rutherford Memorial trophies for speaking voice, Gerry Gebler for Banff scholarship, Boderson Trophy for best Canadian play, with more recognitions and a $50 Manitoba drama league prize.

Ochre River Ratepayers Seek Re opening of Grades 9 10

A petition signed by 116 ratepayers in the Ochre River district asks the area board to restore grade 9 and 10 classes at Ochre River school. Delegates P Carter and W G Cooper presented the case, noting two years of high schoolers attending Dauphin composite high school due to staff shortages and long bus days.

Grade 1 Class Increase Prompts School Redistribution

Supervisor W F Sanderson reports rising grade 1 registrations for the 1963 64 term. Henderson would gain a new grade 1 class while a grade 5 class moves from Henderson to Whitmore. Current registrations show 98 at Whitmore and 100 at Henderson with 119 grade 1 pupils at Whitmore and 98 at Henderson. He notes more fall registrations and about 20 grade 1 repeaters to consider.

Addition project approved for Macneill School in Dauphin-Ochre

The Dauphin-Ochre Area school board awarded Ludgate Construction Co. Ltd. a 179 778 dollar contract for an eight classroom addition and auditorium to Macneill elementary school. Completion is set for August 30 with work starting immediately. The eight classroom wing will be on the north side and the auditorium will extend east from the new entrance.
