Manitoba Telephone Proposes Long Distance Rate Changes

The Manitoba Telephone System proposes a new provincial long distance rate schedule to the public utility board. The plan aims to boost station-to-station usage while raising personal rates and eliminating night and Sunday discounts. Under the two-for-one scheme, two three minute station-to-station calls would cost the same as one three minute person-to-person call.

Ted Teillet Transferred to Winnipeg

H. H. Ted Teillet manager of the Dauphin Na tional Employment Service is transferred to the Winnipeg regional office of the Unemployment Insurance commission as travelling supervisor for the Prairie region. He plans to leave Dauphin soon after long service since 1962. a resident and community worker earlier from St. Vital. Teillet served in the RCAF and RAF during 1938 to 1945.

Summer Assistant Ag Rep Serves Dauphin Area

Garry R. Zilker now serves as a summer assistant agricultural representative in the Dauphin regional office. A University of Manitoba agriculture sophomore, he started May 6 and will work through mid September in Dauphin Roblin and surrounding communities. He hails from Manitou and previously active in the Manitou 4H beef calf club. He will focus mainly on 4H programs in Dauphin Ethelbert and Roblin and assist the general extension program.

Dwellings Lead Spring Building Pace In Town

Town building activity through April shows 17 permits issued valued at 87 025 with five new dwellings totaling 56 000. Compared to 1962 four months totals of 16 permits valued 114 000 eight new dwellings at 84 500.

The Dauphin Provincial Drama festival opened under Don Cronk with remarks from Stewart McLean and local officials. Robert Gill urged actors to listen and vary voice color, stressing pronunciation and stage movement. reviews critiqued Rise and Shine and Zanorin performances, while Shrine Circus promotional notes and Marriage Proposal were also noted for timing and delivery.

Parkway Lanes Recreation Centre Planned for Dauphin

Parkway Lanes Ltd announces a modern recreation centre to be built south of Dauphin Motors on No 10 highway. The facility will include 12 bowling lanes and an eight-table billiard room, a coffee shop, and air conditioned, humidity controlled interiors. Opening planned for early September with parking for 100 to 125 cars and about ten employees. Interested players can send entries to The Dauphin Herald Box 100.

Teachers' College Play Wins Four Awards in Provincial Festival

The provincial drama festival closed with Dauphin producer Mrs. B J Jackie Cracy receiving the Bodersen trophy for best Canadian play. Richard Butler and the cast earned top acting and costume honors, while the Winnipeg group’s Antiane captured four awards. Scholarships and prizes for advanced study were awarded to Kelwood and Portage la Prairie participants.

Local Art Display At Dauphin Hall For Drama Festival

On May 16 Dauphin hosted a Provincial Drama Festival welcome with a two club art display in the town hall. The Sketch Club under Mrs D D Grant and the Art Class under Mrs Juan Gomez-Perales showed 48 pictures by 14 members in oils charcoal and water color featuring winter spring fall landscapes still life and abstract works. Notable pieces include Pall Colors in Trees Arab in the Desert and Tracks in the Snow.

New Uniforms Spark Dauphin Band Spring Concert

The Dauphin Boys and Girls Band performed at the town hall on May 12 in new blue uniforms with gold trim. Over 450 attendees saw the junior, senior, and stage bands in four sections, with awards including bursaries for Sally Carmichael and Jack Dent and the Town of Dauphin shield to Ron MecCorvie.
