Death of Mrs Thomas Iredale in Calgary

Mrs Thomas Iredale died in Calgary in May after a long illness. She leaves her husband and three children, Mrs Bryant of Lethbridge, and Beatrice and Thomas at home. Also surviving are her mother Mrs John Haney and five sisters Mrs John Bryce and Mrs Leslie Patterson of Winnipeg, Mrs M Pascoe of Detroit, Mrs William McGratian of Tisdale, and Mrs Armor Thomson of Dauphin.

Knights of the Cross themed service at First Baptist Church

Dauphin Odo Fellows and Rebekahs attended the morning service at First Baptist Church on May 28 with visiting brothers from Grandview Gilbert Plains and Minnitonas. The pastor spoke on benevolence arising from Christ's coming and the leadership of Jesus Christ, stressing self sacrifice as the Cross in daily life.

Dauphin council cuts rate and backs water plan

The Dauphin town council reduced the general rate by four mills to 17 mills. It approved diverting a small creek to improve water supply, with $1,500 allocated. Other actions include metering steam supply to the Dauphin Steam Laundry, tender calls for gravel for streets, and support for Meadow Portage hydro development as a public enterprise.

Council Members Tour Proposed Water Diversion Site

Following a feasibility report the Water and Light committee and Mayor Robson with Councillors Brewer King Whetter Taylor Solomon Lepper and Supt Brinkman inspected a mountain site by a small stream near the waterworks intake. They favor diverting clear seasonal runoff to the town pipeline pending ratification at the next council meeting.

School Musical Festival Trophies Awarded for All Classes

Trophies and miniature shields were presented for an annual school musical festival. Awards covered nine classes including rural, intermediate, districts, choirs, and large-schools divisions with trophies named for Rotary Club, Elks Lodge, Dauphin Agricultural Society, and firms such as Town of Dauphin and Winnipeg Piano Co. Ladies and gents received maple brooches, bangles, and cuff links as top prizes in solo categories.

Boy Scout and Wolf Cub Athletic Meet Scheduled

The Boy Scout and Wolf Cub Athletic Meet is tentatively set for Saturday June 7. Practice times are 7 to 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at Boy Scout Headquarters with no morning sessions and regular Cub meetings Friday for both Packs. Football and softball games occur Thursday evenings per the schedule.

The Dauphin Agricultural Society directors meet to approve 129 for moving buildings 440 for additions and repairs 75 for hall prize list changes and other conveniences. A 300 contract with Dauphin Citizens Band plus 25 meals is approved. Stelck’s cup prize and a June 17 Plowing Match at Ochre River are discussed. A boys judging team from Ochre River and Dauphin will attend the Brandon Fair Farm Boys Camp.

A joint search by Western Canada Airways and the provincial police will pursue the body of George McKee, pilot, in Lake Manitoba near the western shore. The 1929 crash near Reykjavik Dauphin left A. R. Chute and A. Roach dead. a power boat will scour the area.

Grandview residents met at Grandview school Friday evening to hear onlined views on introducing electricity. J. R. Cameron chaired the session with Mayor Dr. G. PD. Shortfeed presiding. Manitoba Diamond Jubilee plans begin with provincial meeting

Plans for Manitoba’s Diamond Jubilee celebration marking 60 years since Confederation began with a July 15 event. Premier Bracken chaired a Parliament Buildings gathering of about 100 leaders from civic, religious, education and New Canadian communities. The meeting reviewed progress, discussed tentative commemorative ideas, and formed a provincial Jubilee Committee along with advisory and actual executives.

Spruce Creek UF M Local held its May meeting with President Mrs F McLaughlin in charge. A picnic is set for June 19 at Johnzon Farm and a dance will follow in the hall. Next meeting is the second Wednesday in June for further announcements and the party praised Friday night’s hall dance.
