Dauphin and Falcons battle to a 2 2 draw in a first round. Hon E A McPherson presented a budget plan to balance 1932 34 accounts with a 1 percent wage income tax and a 1 percent sales tax. Exemptions include bread milk electricity gas water farm machinery and more.
Dauphin Intermediates travel to Winnipeg for the final game of the playdowns after building an early two goal lead. The visiting Falcons rallied to tie 2 2 after two periods in a hard fought championship bout. Dauphin appeared to hold the momentum with a potential three goal advantage late in the game.
Thomas Edwin Adams aged 70 died in Winnipeg this week after long service with the Dominion lands department. He lived in Dauphin from 1911 to 1929 and had previously resided in Neepawa and Calpary. Surviving are his widow and two children. Adams was active in several fraternal orders and attended United church services. The notice notes his birth in Codrington Ontario in 1863 and a career spanning Manitoba and Alberta.
The Dauphin Local Council of Women sponsors a free home craft course with School Board classrooms. The first meeting is April 4 at Mackenzie school in Lovelock to register members and form classes in sewing cooking home nursing and allied subjects for all ages.
A Glasgow stenographer is serving 40 days in jail after stealing money to pay for a beauty treatment.
Dauphin town and rural councils along with both sides’ solicitors appeared before the legislative committee on municipal affairs to press for inter municipal assessment terms on water works. A further meeting was planned to seek agreement acceptable to both corporations with representatives including Reeve Wickes, Mayor Bennett, and city and town solicitors.
The Dauphin Pioneer Association held its annual gathering on Tuesday evening with over 150 in attendance. A full report including officer elections and present members will be published in the Herald next week.
O. W. Law a Canadian National express messenger pled guilty to thefts from the mails and was sentenced by Magistrate Little to three years. The thefts occurred over a considerable period between Winnipeg and The Pas and a substantial amount of property has been recovered following post office investigations.
The one per cent commodity tax will be paid by the ultimate consumer at the point of sale. Exemptions are limited and the tax will apply to all sales large and small. Employers will deduct the tax at the source, with wage earners and salaried workers paying regularly.
Evening performances start at 7 30 with admission 35c for adults and 15c for children. A second show runs 7 15 to 7 30, adults 25c. Matinees Monday and Wednesday 4 15 Saturday holidays 2 36. Feature "Doubling in Quickies" and "Flying Leather" plus Lucky Seat Night prizes. Prizes displayed in Rose Beauty Parlor window.
