Dauphin Ochre Area Board Approves Teacher Pay Policy

The Dauphin Ochre area board approved a management committee plan to pay an extra 120 per year to teachers with bachelor level or higher degrees starting Sept 1 1956. The board also set compulsory retirement ages 65 for men 60 for women and required medical certificates for contracts to curb absenteeism.

Fire Destroys Winnipegosis I H Building

A Monday night fire at 11 p m destroyed the International Harvester building on River Avenue in Winnipegosis. The 40 by 80 foot structure with a 16 by 36 foot addition housed two tractors tools and a 1955 car all owned by Steve Chokan and valued at 55000 with partial insurance coverage. A nearby unoccupied cottage owned by Peter Bilen duke was also burned.

Teachers' Society Local Seeks To Open Negotations

The Dauphin Ochre area board received a request from District association No. 3 of the Manitoba Teachers' Society to begin salary negotiations. The letter seeks higher basic pay increments and allowances for qualifications, plus changes to the refresher course clause and by law, with the board directing attention to paragraph 15 of the existing agreement governing start date, term, and termination notice.

Ye Olde Robin Hood at Hendrson auditorium thrills crowd

A student council operetta Ye Olde Robin Hood presented two acts from Wednesday to Friday at Henderson auditorium. David Bliss led as Robin Hood with strong support from Bill McIntyre as King Richard and Bill House as Friar Tuck. The cast included Salty McKee Shirley Shymanski as Maid Marian and many choruses and dancers, with Sylvia Moroz at the piano.
