Gorgeous Peony Show Delights Town

The peony show at the armoury drawing visitors Wednesday afternoon featured extensive displays led by Mrs. H. E Lys and other locals. Proceeds fund the fall garden show run by the Horticultural Society, with plans to make the event an annual highlight in Dauphin.

Dauphin Country Club Lady Golfers Compiles Robson Cup Draw

The Dauphin Country Club announces last Friday’s winning foursome: Mrs Campbell, Mrs McGirr, Mre Rameden and Mise Street. The Robson Cup Handicap draw lists 16 in extra series and 8 in final flights with matchups and handicaps, notes first flights deadlines, and specifies using the Ladies Tee on No 3 Fairway.

Official count shows Hawkins win with 264 vote margin

On June 22 the provincial election official count reported Hawkins with a 264 vote majority. Figures show Hawkins 1597 votes to McGirr 1333 and Wickes 578. Second choices indicate Hawkins favored by McGirr and Wickes supporters with substantial plumper totals.

Margaret Ann Robinson daughter of S G Robinson of Winnipegosis and Casie Foster son of Mrs John Foster wed at United Church Winnipegosis on June 27. Rev J F Palmer officiated as guests gathered for the ceremony and reception. The couple to honeymoon by car to Kenora before settling in Winnipeg.

Farewell Given Rev D Gardner By Dauphin St Andrew's Society

The Dauphin St Andrew's Society hosted a farewell gathering at president D. D. McDonald's home for Rev. David Gardner and Mrs Gardner of Ochre River. Gardner accepted a charge at Brisdale Manitoba and will move with his wife and two children. A parting gift was presented and Rev D H Telfer spoke. Musical numbers were performed by local ladies and Duncan Campbell. Gardner leaves after four years of friendly ties with the district and his United Church post.

Wasagaming Named For Riding Mountain Resort

Edna Medd of Winnipegosis wins the $50 first prize in a Manitoba school essay contest with Wasagaming chosen as the new resort name for Riding Mountain National Park. Roy Watt Jr and Grace Brown win $25 and $15 respectively for variant suggestions. Jellicoe Lafreniere earns fourth prize for Matawake. 217 names were submitted. The name means clear water in an Indian language. Betty Campbell also receives a $2 prize.

Dauphin Agricultural Society plans a three day fair July 14 15 16 featuring heavy and light horses beef and dairy cattle sheep swine dairy produce poultry and art. A Child Health Conference with specialists attends and local horse racing is planned. Miller's Jewels of 1932 musical revue Ukrainian Choir features highlight the program.

Dauphin Field Clubs Visit Swan River Demonstration

Charles Murray organized a field day for the Swan River valley Grain clubs with twelve Dauphin district members joining in. Dr. McRostie demonstrated weed control with a seven per cent sulphuric acid spray on mustard, followed by talks from Robert Whiteman and McRostie, then a tour to Burrows mill and a picnic supper hosted by Miss Isabel Alexander and Mrs. Ames for twenty girls.

Western boards of trade organized in Manitoba meeting notes

The Western Associated Boards of Trade formed at Brandon with 92 delegates from 24 communities. A full program included a constitution, executive, and banquet, plus resolutions urging uniform bus rates, highway projects, and Empire free trade, ending with plans to relay outcomes to the hydro commission.

Oiling of Business Streets Proceeds in Dauphin

The Dauphin town council ordered oiling of main streets as part of relief work. Mayor Robson and public works oversee a crew of four shifts. three blocks on each side of Main and Front streets and Burrows are to be treated from Bank of Nova Scotia to the highway. A 5,000 gallon oil supply funds the effort. Work began Tuesday June 21 and will run about a week with a single application.

Weather Delays Grasshopper Eradication Efforts in Dauphin

Poor and unsettled weather stops poison distribution in grasshopper infested Dauphin district. Despite heavy use of bran and sawdust mixes totaling 700 cwts and twelve truckloads, control is paused, allowing the pest to grow unchecked in affected fields and threaten farmer losses.

During last week’s testing four day results show 675 tests on 355 cars with 35 first tests and 159 rechecks, totaling 194 OKs. Wednesday's results reveal most new cars failed initially but 47 gained OK after adjustments and rechecks.

The Friday clash between Dauphin United and Collegiate ended 3 3 with Mazur and Churchill scoring for Collegiate and McArthur converting two penalties for United. Coppell added a corner kick goal and West managed the game as Ranger and Collegiate chase the Walker Cup.
