Narrow Escape From Death In Local Well

John Lee farmer of this district narrowly escaped suffocation while cleaning a barn well Saturday. The eighteen foot deep well had a fourteen foot ladder. fumes halted his descent as he lowered, catching his leg. A neighbor who descended with a rope also passed out, and both were pulled to safety by a logging chain after about an hour.

Wilkey Rites Held for 38-Year-Old at Riverside

Four Local Youths Given Suspended Sentences

Four young men charged with shop breaking and theft were adjourned to Monday the 2th. They received suspended sentences, costs of the court, and various restrictions. Restitution was ordered and each boy must post bonds of 1000 and 500 to ensure future good behaviour.

Betty Campbell won the Macneill medal in the public speaking contest held June 17 in the collegiate auditorium. The IX grade event featured five entrants with topics ranging from The Jesuits in Canada to Hudson Bay Railway and the Railways of Canada. Judges were Mrs. Everall R. M. Stevenson and D. D. MacDonald.

Citizens Asked to Refer Transients to Town Officials

Citizens are asked to refer transient unemployed men seeking meals to the town office or Councillor Solomon. The town has arranged to feed them in exchange for an hour of park work, prompting their departure the same day. Hawkins Wins Dauphin Riding by 286 Majority

Robert Hawkins Liberal-Progressive Coalition candidate was elected to represent Dauphin by a final majority of 286 after transfers. McGirr Conservative and Wickes Farmer-Labor led in some polls but Hawkins led overall, with revised deputy counts showing Hawkins 1846 to McGirr 1560. The Liberal-Progressive coalition holds 36 of 55 seats in the new legislature.

Sainsbury Ends Life With Rifle Shooting

Arthur J. Sainsbury, 59, living ten miles south of town, shot himself with a .22 rifle Sunday night. His wife found the body Monday by the granary. A letter to himself revealed a morose state over disagreements and little left to live for. coroner Roger’s deemed no inquest necessary.
