John Lee farmer of this district narrowly escaped suffocation while cleaning a barn well Saturday. The eighteen foot deep well had a fourteen foot ladder. fumes halted his descent as he lowered, catching his leg. A neighbor who descended with a rope also passed out, and both were pulled to safety by a logging chain after about an hour.
The third competition of the medal handicap series is set for June 23 to 2 inclusive. Draws list matchups including Capt Frere vs G Palmer Jno Gardner vs Watson M Miller vs E F P Fox and many others with local players facing off across a busy lineup.
Friday's four ball foursomes start from the No 1 Tee at 5 pm with Dunlop balls donated by Johnny Lawrence for the lowest score. The draw lists six pairs per match with notable players including Mrs F King Mrs Warnock Mrs Harrington Miss EF Code and others.

Four young men charged with shop breaking and theft were adjourned to Monday the 2th. They received suspended sentences, costs of the court, and various restrictions. Restitution was ordered and each boy must post bonds of 1000 and 500 to ensure future good behaviour.
Betty Campbell won the Macneill medal in the public speaking contest held June 17 in the collegiate auditorium. The IX grade event featured five entrants with topics ranging from The Jesuits in Canada to Hudson Bay Railway and the Railways of Canada. Judges were Mrs. Everall R. M. Stevenson and D. D. MacDonald.
Citizens are asked to refer transient unemployed men seeking meals to the town office or Councillor Solomon. The town has arranged to feed them in exchange for an hour of park work, prompting their departure the same day. After hours, direct relief funds support the program, largely covered by the government.

Robert Hawkins Liberal-Progressive Coalition candidate was elected to represent Dauphin by a final majority of 286 after transfers. McGirr Conservative and Wickes Farmer-Labor led in some polls but Hawkins led overall, with revised deputy counts showing Hawkins 1846 to McGirr 1560. The Liberal-Progressive coalition holds 36 of 55 seats in the new legislature.
Alma Mae Jones and Robert Donald McDougall married at the Manse on June 21. Rev D Gardner officiated. The couple plans a short stay in town before returning to Pointe du Bois where McDougall works for City Hydro Electric Co.
In the town hall speakers and films hosted a Caterpillar tractor and combine harvester summer school sponsored by Powell Equipment Co. of Winnipeg. Farmers from Gilbert Plains Grandview and Dauphin attended two sessions during the day.
United Church notes announce the Junior Sunday School annual basket picnic in Town Park Thursday at 4 15 pm. Preparatory service Friday 8 pm, Session meeting 7 30 pm, and communion and baptismal services next Sunday morning. Transfer or profession of faith requests go to Gavin Craig. Arthur J. Sainsbury, 59, living ten miles south of town, shot himself with a .22 rifle Sunday night. His wife found the body Monday by the granary. A letter to himself revealed a morose state over disagreements and little left to live for. coroner Roger’s deemed no inquest necessary.
The Manitoba Boys' Work board lists a Clear Lake camp from July 5 to 12 with Rev. D. H. Telfer as director. Neil McLennan and Rev. T. S. Watson serve as physical instructor and registrar for the fourth year at Clear Lake.
Rangers dominated the first half with three goals as Hamilton and Scrase added scores. Crowe deflected an own goal to make it 4-0. Shortinghuis spoiled the shutout for C N R late. Referee was Rev. Wm Brailsford. A Colleague C N R game was postponed due to rain.
United Farm Women of Manitoba Dauphin District holds its annual summer conference at the Town Hall Dauphin on Tuesday June 238 with speakers including Mrs Anna Gray Provincial Secretary and Miss Skinner. The evening features the Dauphin District Silver Medal Elocution Contest and a Wicklow ladies short play. all women in town and district invited to attend to discuss community concerns.

Boy Scouts and Wolf Cubs plan their annual Athletic Meet at the Exhibition Grounds on Saturday June 25 starting at 1 30 p.m. Weather permitting. Final practice is Thursday June 23 at 7 p.m. Scouts should bring weight details for meet cards. Parents and others are invited to attend.
