United Church Boys Camp Opens at Clear Lake

The United Church Boys camp for northern Manitoba opened at Clear Lake on Tuesday July St at Clark's Beach. Attendance is expected to exceed 26 with sessions running July Sth to 12th. Rev D H Telfer of Dauphin is camp chief and a physical instructor will oversee sports and swimming training plus religious and educational instruction for the boys. Dauphin group of about five under Cilford Weir and Bert Penman. A girls camp will follow the week after at the same site.

Leon Bay Former Ethelbert Man Dies Suddenly

Ivon Bay former Winnipeg businessman died suddenly at his Windsor Ontario home on June 1 51. A native of Russia born in Crimea he came to Canada in 1905. He ran stores at Whitemouth Manitoba Leader Saskatchewan later joined Bedding Company in Windsor Ontario. He married in 1926 at Ethelbert and is survived by his widow eight children a sister and five brothers.

Illustration Station Field Day Planned Near Dauphin

A field meeting at Illustration Station farm 3 miles southwest of Dauphin occurs Tuesday afternoon July 19 starting at 2:30. The program covers station field inspections crop production weed control varieties and horticulture tasks for women. Speakers include M J Tinline Brandon. J Connor district agriculturist. Half Holiday Altered for Dauphin Fair Week

Under a proclamation by Mayor Robson Friday July 15 will be a civic half holiday. The regular Thursday half holiday is suspended for that week. Dauphin Fair runs July 14 15 16.

Death of Mrs. James Wait in Dauphin

The community mourns the July 1 death of Mrs. James Wait aged 58, born in Montreal. Widow of watchmaker James Wait, she lived in Dauphin, active in hospital aid and patriotic wartime work, survived by her husband, mother, brother George, and sisters in Sarnia. Funeral at United Church, Dauphin, July 4 with pallbearers Fred Davis H. McCorvie H. W. Scrase Peter Morley W. McCormack William Murray.

Dauphin Boys Attend Farm Camp at Brandon

On July 5 John Conner District Agricultural Representative led a six boy Dauphin team to the Provincial Farm Boys Camp at Brandon Exhibition. Dauphin Fair Schedule and Exhibits Deadline

Dauphin Agricultural Society announces judging times for heavy horses light horses beef and dairy cattle sheep swine poultry and exhibits. All entries must be in place by noon on July 14 and forms due by July 11 in the secretary’s office. Also notes a mystery ranch plot and a double feature at Dauphin Theatre Monday and Tuesday.

Dominion Day Picnic Triumph Boosts Town Spirit

The Dominion Day picnic in the town park drew about 1000 children and a large crowd under ideal weather. Mayor Robson and M.L.A. Hawkins addressed attendees while Captain Phare raised the flag as Dauphin Citizens Band played. Events included races for various ages, tug of war, a girls softball tournament with six teams, an exhibition trustees versus teachers game, and a sequence of prize results across many age divisions.

Snodgrass Lawson Wedding in University Circles

Marguerite Lawson, eldest daughter of Dr and Mrs William Lawson, married Dr W G Snodgrass Mimico son of Mr and Mrs Snodgrass Dauphin Manitoba on a Saturday night at the home of Rev W A Medroy. The ceremony was officiated by Rev W A Mellroy. The bride wore a pastel pink and blue French frock with a large white hat and carried Sunset roses. Attendants Miss Marion Lawson in white crepe and Miss Anne Lawson in blue organdie also carried Sunset roses. A relatives reception followed, and the couple plan to reside in Mimico after a trip to Northern Ontario. Guests included Mr and Mrs J B Beck and Master Roland Beck of Ottawa Dr W W Johnston Walkerton and Mrs M Newton of Hamilton.
