Youth Drowned in Wilson River and School Levy Budget

A 15 year old, William Gram, drowned while bathing in Wilson River near Dauphin as his younger brother Tom escaped. The town faced a 1929 general levy increase of 50 percent to 44 941.37, with a large budget covering salaries, transportation, libraries, health, and utilities amid audit concerns.

Dauphin Agricultural Society Holds Directors Meeting

A Saturday meeting chaired by Dr J R Gunne discussed secretary-treasurer status with O E Heaslip possibly stepping down. Robert Hawkins was appointed secretary pro tem. Plowing Match moved to June 20 and extra Kamask local car planned for July 33rd. Peter Robertson of Gilbert Plains named starter for horse races. Meeting adjourned.

District Allocations for Free Press Golf Tournament

The Free Press Golf Tournament district allotments list sub districts with clubs in Dauphin Swan River Stenen Sherritt Gordon and The Pas. Development Work Begins at Riding Mountain Area

East O.E. Heastip of Dauphin was ordered by the interior department to lead summer development at Riding Mountain Recreational Area. A new golf course is planned with a five thousand dollar budget. its topography is praised as comparable to Banff and Jasper Park layouts.

Monster Picnic Dominates Dauphin Scene At Exhibition Grounds

A Manitoba wide collaboration hosts a Monster Picnic on June 18 at the Exhibition Grounds with judging demonstrations, a welcome by Mayor Robson, speeches by D. G. McKenzie and leaders from agriculture pools, a basket picnic, band music, baseball, football and a Jitney Dance. Local and provincial groups including the United Farmers of Manitoba and Wheat Pool back the event. The event also features Wings on stage at the Dauphin Theatre and a salute to women’s councils with a June 10 talk by Mrs. Wilson on local to international council work.

Dauphin Normal School Closes Busy Term Festivities

Students of the Dauphin Normal School held closing exercises in the town hall marking a successful term. Seventy five attendees heard speeches and presentations including Miss Eleanor Steen receiving the Physical Drill badge and Mr R M Stevenson presented with an auto rug. Gifts and tributes were exchanged amid a banquet supporting the Children's Aid Society.

Plowing Match Postponed One Week at Ochre River

Due to seed timing and farmers unfinished spring work the Plowing Match at R. Reilly’s Ochre River farm shifts from Friday June 14 to Thursday June 20. Organizers expect larger entries on the later date.

Dauphin Sreocoa Owners Elect New Overseers

A meeting of the Dauphin Sreocoa owners was held Friday evening with vice chairman BN presiding. Secretary W Marsh presented a two year financial statement and discussed the beach road spending policy. Three new Overseers were elected to replace retiring members C W McLachlin E N McGirmr and W S Marsh.
