Monster United Picnic Brings Vast Rural Gathering

A first annual picnic at the Agricultural Grounds united the United Farmers of Manitoba, the Macitbha Wheat Pool and other co ops with speakers including A J Poole and Prof J M Brown. Events featured dairy cattle judging, livestock marketing talks, a Dauphin band, a 17 6 baseball result, a nil football match and a jitney dance closing the day.

Tax notices corrected after July instalment error

Residents learn that the 57 percent July tax increase does not apply to October and December payments. The July account on April 1 tax notices was issued in error. the July total should appear under the July 2 heading with the school levy and municipal levy about the same as last year.

Mrs Murry Dies After Long Widowhood in Manitoba Church Life

Mrs. Murray wife of Rev S C Murray D D died in Dauphin Hospital after a brief illness. She and her husband served in Neepawa Port Arthur High Bluff Oakland and Kelwood and inspired social and spiritual life at each Manse. Survived by her husband five sons and one daughter the funeral was held in Neepawa on Monday afternoon at 1 36 o'clock.

Game Warden Takes In Young Deer At Birch River

Provincial Game Warden A 8B Howell this week brought in two young deer from Birch River. The animals, about fifteen inches tall and unafraid, are in Chutes barn for care after being displaced by a bush fire. A moose calf also awaits disposition after being sold to a storekeeper for $19.

Grandson fatally shoots elderly man in Ethelbert incident

On Friday June 13 John Burt niak an elderly resident of Ethelbert was accidentally shot by his grandson aged , and died the next day in Ethelbert hospital. A loaded gun lay in the granary where the pair had been. no inquest was held.

Injured Man Struck by Car on Front Street

William Taylor of Dauphin was hit by a car driven by Wes Shannon of Fork River while crossing Front Street in front of the Rex Cafe. Two bones in his right ankle were broken and he was taken to the hospital. No blame was attached to the driver.

Manitoba United Church assigns over forty pastoral charges

More than forty pastoral charges will be made this year in the Manitoba Conference of the United Church. Calls include Rev. F. C. Middleton to Roland and Rev. A. W. Lochead to Dauphin, with appointments such as Rev. D. Flemming to Nakburn, Rev. Thos Neville to Sperling, Rev. H. C. Harris to Hargrave, Rev. J. W. Meek to Davenham, and Rev. J. A. Haw to Medora.

Vagrancy case and motor vehicle act breaches listed in Dauphin

Henry Shannon of Dauphin appeared before Magistrate Hawkins on Monday on a vagrancy charge and was remanded for further examination. Five offenders under the Motor Vehicle Act will face Magistrate Hawkins on Friday the 21st. Chief G. R. Smith departed for Winnipeg in the Parasczyn case and will stop at Portage to collect a youth wanted in Dauphin on several theft charges.

Camps to be held at Clear Lake under R E C auspices

Winnipeg's R E C announces three camps at Clear Lake next month. Boys camp July 18 led by Rev R Vincent with visiting instructor. leadership camp July 15 22 with Homer Lane and Rev J W Little among staff. girls camp dates not specified. Elevator Burns Down At Ochre River

The Union Grain Co elevator at Ochre River burned to the ground on Monday morning. Fire began around five o clock with the building quickly alight. Lacking local firefighting, residents saved the nearby station building across the tracks while the elevator offices and engine rooms were destroyed. Train No. 16 was delayed about 45 minutes as much of the rain fell across the track.

Car collision at 5th S.W and Gladys intersection

J. J. Katz and E. McClarty were in a collision on June 12 at the 5th S.W and Gladys intersection. McClarty's car sustained body, fender, running board damage and a cut tire. Katz’s car was undamaged.

Letter to the Editor on Hoy council petition

William Statham states he did not participate in the petition to unseat Councillor Hoy. He explains he was told of grave offences but found them trivial and asked to be removed, which was not done, and he disclaims any connection with the effort against Hoy.

Rangers face Collegiate Friday in the district final to decide Dauphin's Manitoba Junior Playoffs representative after a 6 8 semi final and a 2 1 league win. The season's only prior meeting ended in a draw and Gimli Camp Day activities raised funds for Fresh Aly Camps of the United Church.

Six drivers fined in Provincial Police Court week end

Six persons appeared before Magistrate Hawking in the Provincial Police Court over the week end charged with various Motor Vehicle Act infringements from speeding to improperly adjusted lights. They were all fined the minimum ten dollars and costs. Peter Fedorkin was sentenced on Friday to 218 months in gaol for offences against a young girl.

Regiment to Train At Camp Huskes This July

The regiment will proceed for a 12 days annual training at Camp Huskes starting July 15. All ranks must attend parades at the Armoury every Thursday evening. Young men wishing to rein up and take advantage of this training period should contact Wink Lt-Col Ramsden, Major Me Geirk or Ec Cherenn. A number of horses suitable for cavalry work are requested and will be hired at $100 per day.
