Clear Lake Highway Taken Over As Provincial Main Road
After two years of effort by MLA Robt Hawkins the eight mile Dau Phin to Riding Mountain Park road will be taken over by the province as a main road. The order in council dated June 1 1937 assigns two thirds of maintenance cost to the province and one third to the municipality. The road serves mostly tourist traffic into the park with limited local use and had been gravelled as a federal relief project in 1934.

Trade Board seeks stricter vehicle licensing rules
Dauphin delegates to the Western Manitoba Associated Boards of Trade convention in Brandon on June 15 will push a resolution asking the province to amend the Highway Traffic act. The plan requires drivers to be physically capable to receive a license and calls for compulsory mechanical checks on each car before licensing, with brakes and steering wheel in good condition as a prerequisite. Annual Hospital Reports Show Increase in Patients
Dauphin General Hospital reports at the annual governors meeting show 455 more patients treated in 1936 than 1935, with 2258 patients in 1936 and 1803 in 1935. Average stay fell to 8.5 days. 72 deaths and 175 births recorded. The new wing, opened in 1935, expanded capacity. The treasurer reported a net operating surplus of 3795.64, revenues 45980.31, expenditures 39184.67, and a 3000 reserve for uncollectible accounts. Fixed assets valued at 89765. The report also notes nursing staff numbers and recent training and staff changes. The board was re-elected with Dr H N Macneill presiding.
