Ratepayers Debate Electric Light By law at Town Hall
Ratepayers gathered at the town hall last Thursday evening to discuss the Electric Light By-law to be voted on at a plebiscite on Monday June 8. The by-law would authorize borrowing 575 006 for proposed additions to the local power plant centered on a 560 kW turbine and generator. Mayor D D McDonald traced the plant history since 1965 and reported earlier costs and borrowings, noting earnings and modest profits that helped reduce taxes. The meeting also reviewed hospital reports and board continuity, with several officials named and an auditors deficit small relative to assets.

Octogenarian Joseph Le Fleur Dies at Ochre River
Joseph Le Fleur aged 83 died at his daughter’s home in Ochre River on May 27. He was born in 1852 in Pembroke Ontario and moved to Manitoba in 1900. He was a former farmer, a United Church member, and survived by three daughters and three sons. Funeral services were held May 30 at the Lodge Funeral Home in Dauphin with burial in Riverside cemetery.

Dauphin Oddfellows and Rebekahs observed their Anniversary and Memorial services in the new Main Street South hall on Sunday afternoon. Noble Grand E. A. Marcroft chaired as F. W. MacLean of the United Church led the service. Vocal selections were given by Mrs. E. Mc Nabb, Mrs. S. Lowes, and Mrs. J. S. Oliphant, with visitors from outside points attending.

John E. Hedderly Pioneer Resident Buried Saturday
Funeral services were held Saturday at St. Pauls Anglican Church Dauphin for John E Hedderly of Bowsman who died at his home Thursday. He was 77 and a pioneer of northern Manitoba with roles as Dauphin mayor hospital director and Burrows Lumber executive. Survived by two daughters, services attended by Winnipeg Burrows staff and Dauphin officials.

Several Premises Entered and Robbed Late Sunday Night
Five Dauphin business firms were entered in the early hours of Monday with about one hundred dollars stolen. The Grange Cafe offense yielded 61 dollars, Palmer's Service Garage 26.15, Red Indian Service Station eight, Western Service Garage two, and Robert Hawkins Company Ltd saw a dummy cash drawer opened but nothing taken. Police link the thefts to a single culprit and to a May 17 Clark Motor Company robbery.

The Dauphin Commercial Girls association held its second annual banquet Friday May 29 at the King's Hotel with about eighty attendees. Guest speaker Miss Margaret Gemmell of Brandon spoke for the Business and Professional Women's Association in Manitoba. New officers for 1935-56 were Edith Whitmore president Edna Town vice president Marjorie Douglas secretary Gertrude Kennedy treasurer Alexia Carlyle-Bell finance convenor Viola Smith program convenor Vera Macquarrie sports convenor Alice Seeley social convenor. A financial report showed roughly 1300 spent on the new playground, 700 raised by Business Girls and the rest by Commercial Travellers.
