Rural schools will hold an annual field day on Friday June 5 at the exhibition grounds. Groups will be judged for uniforms banners and marching while Spector Stevenson delivers the welcome address. Physical drill competitions and a ranch picnic are planned with races and team games in the afternoon. Entries must be sent to Miss Rath by Saturday May 30.
La Verendrye Chapter pursues a deferred regular meeting now set for Friday June 12 at 3 PM in the Armory. Mrs W E Lee will cite the report of the national meeting.
Victory Chapter No. 6 of the Order of the Eastern Star honored Mrs Dan Hamilton and Mrs F W Whit marsh on May 11 as they prepare to relocate to Winnipeg. The social event closed smoothly with a brief tribute to their service.
A historic two film program features Sybil Jason in Magnificent Obsession as the Biggest Little Star. The Dauphin Theatre presents a double feature with Little Big Shot starring Glenda Farrell and Robt Armstr ong, plus Escape Me Never with Elizabeth Bergner on Monday and Tuesday.
The Women's Auxiliary of the Dauphin Deanery met May 20 at St. Matthew's. Rev H E Bridgett officiated. about 45 members took part in sacraments. Reports showed growing membership, with notable praise for the Boys' Church League. Afternoon papers, solos, and a Leadership talk closed the day. Gilbert Plains hosted luncheon and supper. 1937 deanery to be held in Roblin. Newly elected officers named.
The talk of the town Magnificent Obsession has sold over 300 000 copies and reached its forty fifth edition. Irene Dunne and Robert Taylor star in the film at the Dauphin Theatre this Thursday Friday and Saturday.
Dauphin Manitoba town council adopted a 19 mill general levy to cover an estimated $7,800 deficit in the 1936 budget. The meeting included discussions on relief funds, hospital utility requests, park maintenance, road upkeep to Riding Mountain, and a future public vote on power plant extensions.
The United W.M.S. met at St James Church on May 20 with Mrs J J Lysecki presiding and Mrs J G Powers and Mrs D D McDonald assisting. They agreed to supply clothing per Presbyterial request and heard convention reports stressing missionary work and unity across races.
Mary Jane Winters 78 died Monday at daughter Mrs C W Church 212 6th Ave SW in Dauphin after a long illness. A New York native who settled in Stormont Ontario and Dauphin district since 1892 she was predeceased by husband Louis Vincent Winters in 1914. Surviving children Earnest John George three brothers Jim Walter Arthur three sisters Isobel Carr N Kearns Mrs Frank Hayr with services 2 30 PM Wednesday at the Baptist Church Dauphin. Burial Riverside cemetery with six great nephews pallbearers Fred Lyman Hubert Archie Henry Lawrence Winters.
A round up event at Elk's new hall is announced for Saturday May 30 with admission set at 25 cents.
In Walker Cup action Rangers and United both earned two points from wins. United beat Collegiate 4 1 with Millan scoring the second half winner, while Rangers edged United 1 0 on Tuesday with Casey scoring.
In the Commercial Softball League match on Monday May 25 at Mackenzie School grounds the British Consuls beat Safeway Stores 19 to 11. Batter ies for the winners were Cameron Bladon and Slobodzian with Tuthill Nantais for Safeway. Next week British Consuls face Dauphin Social Club on June 1 and Safeway meets Dauphin on June 1 both at 7 p.m.
